Honestly yesterday I searched in google for the Bollywood movies copied from Hollywood - and OH GOSH!!! it's a HUGE list. I have seen most of these movies from both Bollywood and Hollywood. I won't say that Bollywood is not original, because few of the great movies are original stories!

However, here is my list for the top 10 Bollywood movies "inspired" from Hollywood, some are HIGHLY copied (the whole plot) and some of the movies just copied few scenes or the idea. Though these are the top 10, but there is no ranking exactly -

Akele Hum Akele Tum - Kramer Vs Kramer
- The whole plot is copied, including the scenes and some of the dialogues. I love both of these movies, and both of these movies were supert hits!

Dil Hain Ke Manta Nahin - It Happened One Night
- Almost 100% copied - especially some of the scenes like the picture above. Both of these movies were great and super hits!

Hum Tum - When Harry Met Sally and Before Sunset
- Not a 100% copy but some of the scenes and the idea of the plot. However, I liked Hum Tum better!

Darr - Cape Fear
- Not fully copied, but the plot is slightly inspired. I liked Darr better, especially because of SRK's great acting!

Ghulam - On the Water Front
- Ghulam is btr in my p.o.v.

Sholay - Once Upon a Time in the West
- Major Scenes are copied, but not fully

Satte Pe Satta - Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
- The plot is slightly copied, I liked both!

Sarkar part 1 and 2 - The Godfather
- I liked Sarker, but must say NOBODY can touch "The Godfather." Everything is perfect in that movie, including the Theme Song and the actors like Al Pacino. Just to add - the theme song of the Godfather is copied in Akele Hum Akele Tum. However, Amitabh Bachchan was the only actor who I think matched the Godfather.

Omkara - Othello
- Both are great!

Murder - Unfaithful
- I liked Unfaithful more.

----------------------------------

However, movies like Baazigar, Badshah, Krissh, Koi Mill Gaya, God Tussi Great Ho, Partner, Aitraaz, Race, Dhoom 1 and 2, Rang De Basanti, Jism, 36 China Town, Josh, Dostana, Yuva, Andaaz Apna Apna - are also copied from few movies. Some are 100% copied and some just copied few scenes from a mixture/a lot of movies. Few just took inspiration from the movie's plot or took idea from it slightly.

some of them I didn't even know were copied like Ghulam and Darr. But yea there r a lot of movies in bw that use some of the scenes from other movies not just HW ones (asian and european movies as well). I understand that in any artistic fields originality is rare, they use the same basic idea but the way they present is what they're being judged on, i.e. good guy turning bad, this is just a prompt, the way they show how the guy turns bad, his motives, the consequences, etc... that's what keeps it interesting. Two stories may share a similar idea, but the one that succeeds is the one that presents it more artistically and in depth.

Omkara is an adaptation of Othello. Shakespeare's work is in the public domain, so a director from any industry is free to adapt the play. Please get your facts straight.
