This was an era where a heroine had full respect. Sridevi brought back the importance of a film heroine. She was the biggest thing to happen in the 80s. The only actress who ruled Bollywood for a whole decade. all the others after her were called no.1s for a year or two maximum. What does that tell you?
And yes she was the last no.1. even a magazine like filmfare which certainly has some favorite couldn't give that title to anyone else after her. There is absolutely no other actress who got No.1 word written so boldly on her picture and that on the cover. With Sri's departure from films the no.1 story came to an end and heroine's roles went back to dances and songs only.
As you can see from above she was at the top alone from 1983 -1994.
In 1992 Filmfare magazine and Stardust magazine competed with eachother to who would better showcase Sridevi, and they both ended calling her the Last Empress. A title no actress before her or after her ever been given.
At her peak she was always offered films that centred around her. Now she comes back after a decade and she still gets a film that revolves around her. Once a queen....Always a queen
Sridevi is one of the few stars who had an international market. Her films like Chandni, Chaalbaaz and Lamhe are huge overseas blockbusters. That's the reason why Steven Spielberg had approached her for a role in Jurassic Park but it did not happen due to her heavy workload in India. Later many film magazines wrote that if she had accepted the offer, her stardom wold have increased tenfold.
Not many know that Sridevi is listed in Limca Book of Records 1992 as the highest paid artiste of Bollywood.
Her nose was so weird from side profiles and it still is...her nose job today is no improvement either. She should get a better surgeon to remove the hook from it no offence. But shes a good actress

Only she can comeback after 15 years and get a film that revolves around her and manage to generate such overwhelming response. No wonder Yash Chopra said, 'Madhuri and Juhi are good but Sridevi is a legend.'
They used to call Sreedevi the Female Amitabh. But interestingly, at one point in her career, she was more powerful than Big B. All his films were flopping while she was giving bumper hits.
Sridevi was HUGE. They used to call her the One Woman Industry. It's quite famous that producers used to say that when Sridevi was in a film, no one asked who the hero was. That was her power. She dominated her male co-stars in every film like Mr. India, Lamhe and Khuda Gawah. Because she was seen as the solo hero of her films, she was offered central roles where the entire film revolved around her be it Nagina, Chandni and Chaalbaaz or Gumrah, Laadla and Judaai. Not like actresses of today who are sidekicks to the hero.
Remember these times....Sridevi was a phenomenon.....Every month a magazine would come up with Sridevi on the cover....And they were always SOLO covers....What a star....A superstar!!!.....I have never seen such craze for any actress after her except Madhuri to some extent.
Look at the Filmfare year calling her Unquestionably No. 1....1984....and she was No.1 till 1993 coz I had seen the year end countdown that year and she was on top. That's 10 years man...No.1 for a decade....That was Sridevi
