Talaash’s Low-Key Promotional Strategy- Does Aamir Have A New Trick Up His Sleeve?
Promoting movies through gimmicks, press conferences, and appearances in reality and talent shows started as a fad in Bollywood. Today, it is considered the Holy Grail of film promotion today. Promotional activities start early and the marketing blitz continues until the audience is virtually fed up into buying tickets for the movie. This has become the norm for every release, big or small. Well, almost every release, that is.
A big exception to this ‘carpet bombing’ promotional strategy is Aamir Khan starrer Talaash. This is probably the first time Aamir has not resorted to the promotional blitzkrieg before the release of a movie. He may not appear in talent and reality shows or resort to gimmicks to create a buzz around his movie. Yet, he invariably ensures he is in the news before his movie's release.
This time around, rather strangely, things have been pretty low-key as far as Talaash’s promotion is concerned. The movie releases on November 30th but the film’s promotional strategy still seems to lack urgency. The movie is Kareena's first appearance on the big screen after her marriage. Any Aamir release is always eagerly awaited. Yet, no attempt is being made to build a hype around the movie.
Is he waiting for Jab Tak Hai Jaan’s release? Is he planning to hit the gas pedal after Diwali? Or, is he planning to rely on plain ol’ word of mouth publicity instead? Knowing Aamir Khan, the reason can be any of the above or something even weirder. One only hopes Aamir knows what he is doing.
