Talaash’s Low-Key Promotional Strategy- Does Aamir Have A New Trick Up His Sleeve?
Promoting movies through gimmicks, press conferences, and appearances in reality and talent shows started as a fad in Bollywood. Today, it is considered the Holy Grail of film promotion today. Promotional activities start early and the marketing blitz continues until the audience is virtually fed up into buying tickets for the movie. This has become the norm for every release, big or small. Well, almost every release, that is. A big exception to this ‘carpet bombing’ promotional strategy is Aamir Khan starrer Talaash. This is probably the first time Aamir has not resorted to the promotional blitzkrieg before the release of a movie. He may not appear in talent and reality shows or resort to gimmicks to create a buzz around his movie. Yet, he invariably ensures he is in the news before his movie's release. This time around, rather strangely, things have been pretty low-key as far as Talaash’s promotion is concerned. The movie releases on November 30th but the film’s promotional strategy still seems to lack urgency. The movie is Kareena's first appearance on the big screen after her marriage. Any Aamir release is always eagerly awaited. Yet, no attempt is being made to build a hype around the movie. Is he waiting for Jab Tak Hai Jaan’s release? Is he planning to hit the gas pedal after Diwali? Or, is he planning to rely on plain ol’ word of mouth publicity instead? Knowing Aamir Khan, the reason can be any of the above or something even weirder. One only hopes Aamir knows what he is doing.

While pathetic, over the top films like Jtjh and Sos are making noise. I believe, it would be Talaash that's going to have the final laugh. can't be bad as it has Aamir in it. And then later Dabangg2 ending up as the biggest hit of the year.
The Mecca strategy is very subtle promotion. Muslims get elated seeing photos of Amir going to Hajj.
That enthusiasm translates to a desire to see his forthcoming film.

box office follow aamir khan and not vice versa! aamir khan is the legend of all legends!
He is posing in front of Holy places every day in Mecca for cheap publicity and sends his pics to the media.....that is his cheap way of promoting Talaash!

Aamir has been showing off his Talaash look since 2011 at all events. Reema Kagti is giving interviews every day nowadays. On Twitter & FB, Reliance & Talaash pages are running contests. So bit of promotions have happened.
It only makes sense to avoid mixing promotions with JTHJ, SOS. I think they'll promote it after Diwali but not much promotion would be needed since the film seems to have a solid story to boast of & it may become talk of the town due to fantastic WOM.
Talaash's biggest advantage is that it's a suspense film whereas others are same old love stories/masala films. As a suspense film it will be discussed & gain from WOM publicity.
This year English Vinglish, Barfi, OMG were barely promoted but they did so well. I expect Talaash to go that way - promotion or no promotion.
