Ashika Pratt graces the cover of Vogue India,April 2011. The cover is very much in sync with the color of the season i.e orange. I love her dress and the fact that she is working it bare footed. But her facial expressions are not working for me.

Ashika was New Zealand born-and-raised. She was voted as one of Elle Magazine's Sexiest Models.

Sure but India had better start embracing the fact that the "world" is NOT all white. In fact there are plenty of us who look and are complected more like Indians than white European people.
And incidentally if you are Indian brown people are NOT "exotic" or "from the outside" to you. It's the white people who are exotic in India. You can lie to yourself and pretend as the day is long but Indians are NOT Germans and to the real white people all of you...all of US are dark and foreign...even Karisma Kapoor wouldn't be confused with Princess Anne so get over the white licking.

i love that colour on her

there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a "foreign" model on the cover of an Indian magazine. if India wants the world to embrace it, India must also embrace the world. times are changing!

I think it's okay to have non-Indian or foreign girls in movies and magazine covers. America does it all the time and that keeps things original. However, India only puts foreign girls who are mixed with white or really light skinned on their covers and in their movies. They would never put a half black, half Indian girl or a dark foreign girl on their covers, which sucks, because those kind of girls are extremely exotic and gorgeous.

LOL!!!!!!!!! but, i admit, i kinda agree with you!

and, for you haters, if Indians can't embrace the world, then the world won't embrace Indians. there is nothing wrong with having a "foreign" model on the cover. but, i suppose you idiots wouldn't understand that!

And yes, tired of non indians on desi mag covers

Indian movies talk about Indian pride. Yet, they prefer foreigners to grace their magazines. Are there not enough Indian-born models?

Anonymous's picture

nangi!

Anonymous's picture

She is half white and foreign, which is probably why she is on a mag cover! India is still under colonial depression!

Another half white girl on the cover of an Indian fashion magazine, what else is new?
