Our lips are one of the most important features of our face. If the lips have dark patches or dry flakey skin, it can make us look bad or washed out and monsoons tend to dry them up even more. Due to pollution and use of harsh cosmetics, lips tend to turn dark and lose their natural beauty over time. now, this makes us dependant on cosmetics, even more, making our lips feel worse than it already is. It is like an ongoing cycle that never stops. But, you can stop the cycle and here are a few ways to do so!

1: Use fewer lipsticks

Lipsticks contain colour pigments, wax and synthetic chemical that make it stay for a long while. These different combinations can harm the sensitive skin of your lips. Use lipsticks only when you need it. Instead, opt for a tinted lip balm that will moisturise the lips as well as give your lips the colour it needs.

2: Exfoliate

The skin goes through a process of renewing dead cells and producing new ones. This layer of dead cells tends to make the lips look dry and flakey. It is important to exfoliate and get rid off the dry skin layer. People often feel can exfoliating can ruin the lips more but in fact, it results in making the lips soft and supple.

3: Moisturize

A lot of us do not know that that saliva can end up drying the lips by reducing all its moisture. If the lips are dry, it will end up causing more problems. So, always have a lip balm handy and reapply every now and then.

4: Use a lip balm with SPF

Exposure to the harsh sun rays can cause darkening of the lips even during the monsoon. UV rays have the same damaging effect on your lips as it does on the skin. So always use lip products that contain SPF. Nowadays there are many companies that offer lip products that contain SPF.

5: Retain the moisture in your lips

Dry Lips and skin are also affected by the lack of water in the body. To retain the natural colour of lips, it is essential to maintain hydration levels by drinking plenty of water. Drinking enough water can automatically maintain the skin’s health.
