Recently, the Ministry of Textiles awarded 17 designers and artisans with the ‘Threads of Excellence’ award. The three Indian designers to receive this honour were Rahul Pratap Singh, Rahul Mishra and Aneeth Arora of Péro. Each of these designers have created a name for their brand and themselves with the unique narratives and exploration of textiles.

On receiving the award, Rajesh Pratap Singh shared how glad he is that the fashion industry is being recognised by the Indian Government, and how this is going to encourage every textile and fashion designer in the country to experiment further and contribute more to both the mechanised and handloom sector.

This is what Rahul Mishra had to say after conferring the award for Outstanding Achievement, “I felt emotional seeing the national emblem on something that has been conferred to you, it really means a lot to me. Getting a national award validates all our efforts in being there internationally. It feels great to know that the Government of India also recognises the power of fashion and that they are inclusive in seeing the potential of growth in the partnership between craftsmen and designers.”

Aneeth Arora mentioned how ecstatic he is for being recognised by the Ministry of Textiles, for the work the designers have done in taking Indian traditions to the global platform. Also, how this is a huge inspiration for weavers and craftspeople, which will in turn help keep the heritage of traditional Indian textiles alive.

Addressing the event, the Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu said that the sector needs to be recognised and respected by all. “I understand that India’s export performance has not been up to expectations for a variety of reasons. It cannot be a business as usual and the industry has to rise to the occasion and ensure that the share of India’s exports reaches double digits.”
