Pakistani Bridal's getting better !!
CREDIT : ALL PICTURES ARE SOURCED FROM GUPSHUP FORUMS. Firstly I am an Indian. But lately all the Indian Bridal weeks that have been showing the latest bridal trends in India has got me worried. Everything is OTT. The fabrics being used are terrible. The is no fine work anymore, its all big and bling bling !! The color are too "jhatak " . Nothing is making me go "wow" anymore. Speaking strictly from bridal point of view : While Pakistani cuts and drapes are not what we Indians would wear, its a bit tooo conservative too many yards of fabric here and to me bridal means either sari or ghagara choli. I don't like these long tops over skirts !!! But speaking of the craftsmanship , fabric and color schemes are amazing. Yea sure we are more open to changes and have more garments to work with, In India we do all kinds of clothing, I Pakistan there is only salwar kameez and bridal wear and Indian designers cater to the Int'l market as well and by tht I dont mean Indian living abroad but actual foreigners. Case in point Falguni and Shane Peacock, Naseem Khan !!! I am not trying to say one is better than the other, so please refrain from negative commentating. India used to do this before so its not all this work is nothing new. So where have all the embroiderers gone. But I just feel Indian designer are not giving importance to "karigiri" any more. But Pakistani designer can no way compare to Indians in salwar kameez, their idea of those loose pants and capris to wear under the kameez just make me faint !!! And western , umm the less said the better !! Anyway so here are a few pics that I found

Wow! Just Wow!
I've gotta say, smart way to get more hits on your blogpost. Really nothing incites more backlash than stating someone is "getting better at" something. Lovely act of condescension there both showing said target was both not that great at Bridalwear to begin with but you have now oh so kindly deigned to admit they are "getting better" at it. A title like "An Example of some Beautiful Pakistani Bridalwear" wouldn't have served the purpose of igniting such a ridiculous string of arguments so really why go with less provoking titles?
pakistani bridals have always been better.
One word... Wow
pakistani bridal's getting better???? pakistan bridals have always been better than indian ones....much less gaudy, better colour combinations, better fabric, etc
to the kuwait person, north america has restriction on arabs due to terrrorism, so keep your superiority to yourself
To all you people who posted their comments below..
No matter how educated, rich, superior you all are but the minute you wrote those comments, it showed what kind of thinking and character you posses and that makes all educated n social class go down the drain.
OPEN YOUR MIND BEFORE YOUR MOUTH.
Not trying to say one is better than the other. negativity is ozing from everything you've said love. What a joke you are. Most of these pictures show work from Bunto Kazmi so they look the same. If you were less ignorant and knew more about Pakistani fashion you would know know better. Yards or fabric or not, Pakistani outfits are way more elegant and regal than the tacky MM, Bahrvi Jaikishan, Suneet Verma, Shantanu and Nikhil, Anita Rubbish one finds in the main stream Indian fashion scene. Abu Jani is the only one whos designs are just phenomenal.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG amazing details, they r so perfectley done! Those pastels colors r just mindblowing! Nothing like a Indian bridal dress.
@londoncalling - YOU ARE SO CONTRADICTORY! Don't be afraid of your own race to say out loud how much you loved these Pakistanis bridal clothes and their original awesome sense of fashion! PAKIS ARE BETTER AT THIS!
what does bridal wear have to do with osama? lol
just enjoy the designs people
Firstly I am not an Indian. Secondly I am not a Pakistani.
You say: "I am not trying to say one is better than the other" - but clearly you are being extremely bias by somewhat 'demeaning' Pakistani fashion with your comments. The two cannot be compared whatsoever. Indian bridals are definitely, as you said, more bling, work is very thick/big - quite tacky in most cases and the more flesh on view the better (apparently). The Pakistani bridals are much more elegant and the work is very intricate and the detailing always immaculate (especially the top designers) as well as the long, lean silhouette- so I feel they are sort of polar opposites. Yes it's true Indians cater to the International market whilst Pakistani's have stuck to their roots. The difference is, Pakistanis are extremely creative and always coming up with new fashion ideas (yet somehow sticking to traditions) but their downfall is probably their infamous lack of knowledge in 'PR', whereas the Indians are a nation of 'copying ideas' and somewhat 'making it their own'. You mock the loose pants and capris, but the fact of the matter is, if the Western world introduced such trends you'd be all for it! Pakistani's have dignity and pride and they don't 'follow' the Western world which makes them unique in their own sense.
I, by chance came across your blog and was really disappointed by the insulting remarks you have made, especially your final paragraph. Considering you were so quick to state you were Indian and 'tried' to reassuringly cancel out any bias - I felt you were extremely bias and your snarky comments here and there were absolutely uncalled for. I for one was excited about finding this blog but will not be revisiting.

WELL SAID! YOU TOOK THE WORDS OUT OF MY MOUTH .. I DIDNT LIKE THE WAY SHE WAS PUTTING DOWN PAKISTANI WESTERN DRESSED AND OTHER STYLES! ... BUT I KNOW WHT SHE DID THAT CUZ MOST OF THE INDIANS ARE V LESS TOLERANT OF PAKISTANIS, ESP WHEN ANYONE PRAISES PAKISTANI STUFF! THEY GET ALL ANNOYED!!

Pakistani work shouldnt be compared to Indian work - both are different. India likes to think anything good must belong to India - thats not the case. Pakistan has its own culture, religion and culture that contributes to its fashion. Its not from India and India needs to stop thinking they own anything good that comes from Pakistan.
These designs are not like 90s fashion in India - they are sooo much better - its the Indians who tried to go for a mughal/Muslim traditional look. Which is essentially who Pakistanis are - so Indians getting inspiration from Muslim history.
In my opinion Pakistani clothing/fashion has always been so much better than Indian fashion - no offence but its an honest opinion. Also - those who think its a Indian influence its definitely NOT the case - Pakistan has its own culture, and traditions being a Muslim country it takes its inspiration from the Muslim Mughal empire that ruled India and Pakistan. Pakistan is not from India - it become its own country round about same time India became a country - but its history is rich with some influences from Persia, Afghan and Arabian traditions.
But to each their own - no one should be trying to put anyone down - I'm sure some people prefer Indian fashion and rightly so - as it has its own traditions and influences.
Peace :)
All the bridal outfits are way too heavy with too much kaam..they are very excessive over the top that is the reason they have lost their elegance. I don't like any of them and would not be caught dead in them. Way too much chamak damak..too may types of kaam all bundled together..because they are over done they have lost all the elegance..
The girls wearing them seem to be lost in them, the clothes have taken all the importance and the person in them is lost..the clothes are not doing anything for the person..it seems that the girls are carrying the clothes not the other way around..

omg!! loooveee the work and colors on all of these dresses!! I agree with the columnist when she says that paki bridal dresses are super heavy and have a lot of "cloth".. but omg they are so pretty!
btw.. all u FOOLS below me arguing about india/pak/kuwait.. seriously, get a life. We are in the 21st century ,and you fools bring up crap like this over and over and act like uneducated idiots. We are the generation of facebook, twitter, internet, mobile phones, peace and love. Lets try to boast "no wars" and acceptance VS terrorism.
You people should be ashamed of yourselves... educated people with such misguided prejudices and outright racist remarks. It's a fashion website for god's sake, not everything is india vs. pakistan. Grow up!
Tue, 2011-09-27 23:11 — Anonymous well said!
wow - a simple article about bridal collections and a person's personal opinion has inspired so much displaced debate. a true testament to the level of intolerance in the world (not just Pakistan) at large. i don't see the relevance of 'terrorism' and a discourse of whether Pakistani's are allowed to work in Kuwait in the comment thread. simply, both countries produce fashion that appeals to their particular market. kudos to both of getting a job well done. i'm Pakistani, so obviously the Pakistani designs appeal to me more, but i think it's perfectly acceptable and normal for the Indian designs to appeal to anyone (Paki, Indian or any other nationality) more. it's art - and different people like different things. i'm embracing the diversity!
even though it says the writer is Indian, I have a strong feeling that is untrue, pink villa is a celebrity, bollywood promoting website, how could something random like this pop up. this is just an opinion, only the true writer of this post knows what they were trying to do here. the designs are lovely and cheerios to them in progressing, I see many people fighitng in there comments, comon guys only the desiginers know what and how they are insipired we can debate but there will be no end. both countries have talent, just like other countries in the world.
very easy to post comments as an anonymous person......
I am a Pakistani; not being patriotic but I truly like most of the brides looks. They are not over done, the designs are elegant and not cluttered or overly dramatic. Gorgeous!
I am amused to see residents of assorted third world countries fight among themselves :)
bugger ye off.
One word: Awesome. The intricacy of the work is just amazing. I wonder what is the price range like and whether I can buy this stuff in North America? I am not getting married anytime soon but some of these dresses like the one the lady is wearing in the last pic can be worn on the wedding of a close friend/sister/cousin IMO. I just wish I could buy something like that from Chicago or perhaps even order it online.
I agree with the Kuwaiti person below, I myself am from Oman (a rich Arab Gulf country as well) and I have to say Indians have better reputation for their hard work, bollywood, clothing designs here than Pakis who are now facing restrictions from entering as well. BTW Pakis are NO brothers or sisters of mine (just because of same religion), we are nothing alike, we are billion times better, and there is no comparison!
It seems Pakis can’t face the fact that they are not liked, and it was Pakis who hid Osama & aided terrorists not the Middle East, these are facts and u guys need to deal with it – and stop accusing us for all your problems, we are not like the Indians who will tolerate your SHIT. After reading all these comments I have so much more respect of Indians!
To the snobbish Kuwaiti person who has wealth I a sure merely by accident of birth, please dont look down upon working class people because Allah put you in a better position than them. Be grateful and humble and respect poor people because you could very well have been born in a maid's position. And sometimes there's nothing you can do to better your situation in life, especially for the very poor. They do work hard. REspect that and next time your maid does something for you, be kind to her.
You may sit well in kuwait becoz the rest of the world thinks both u and pakistanis and all muslims (even indian) are terrorists. day dreaming calling ur brothers as terorists (incase u r a non muslim who is currentl residing in kuwait....)
