If losing weight is on your priority list and you’re considering going for a run to shed those extra kilos, you may as well do it the right way. Many people complain that running hasn’t brought any fruitful results. Well, the problem might lie in the way they are doing it.

So, what is the right way to approach running for weight loss? In order to lose a pound a week, you'll need to cut 500 calories each day, through a combination of diet and exercise. Here’s a strategy that will work for you.

Push yourself

While walking and running both help boost your stamina and keep you active, it has been found that people usually lose weight only if they put in more effort. Hence, walking never aids in cutting off those extra kilos. Moreover, don’t stop yourself from running for a long period of time or increasing your pace.

A high intensity run can lead to a burn out which affects even when you’re resting. Planning your next run? Start with three to four 30-minute runs a week. Make sure you sprint for 30 seconds and then recover for 30 seconds to not burn yourself out.

Don’t eat more to run more

If you’re running more, you will naturally need more energy. However, consuming more food can only do more harm than good. It is essential to cut down on calories along with running.

To get your dose of energy back, take a few sips of energy drinks. Also, it is better to not overdo it.

Relieve stress and anxiety

According to a study in the Journal of Experimental Biology, running regularly releases endocannabinoids. The hormones are linked to pleasure and can help you coming back for it.

Indirectly, it helps relieve stress and anxiety and keeps a person calm.

So, what are you waiting for? Get set go! As Dean Karnazes said: “Running is about finding your inner peace, and so is a life well lived.”
