English Vinglish is the story of Shashi, a woman who doesn't know English and is made to feel insecure about this by her family and society at large. The film though light-hearted is about the touching and transformational journey of Shashi. Circumstances make her determined to overcome this insecurity, master the language, teach the world a lesson on the way to becoming a self assured and confident woman.
The film is shot mostly in New York and captures the inherent struggle of many people all over the world with the English Language. Hilarious, touching, sensitive, this film marks the come back of India’s biggest female star, Sridevi.

i Saw it already...i went with no much expectation thinking it would be another "mind ur language" stuff.
But i was pleasantly surprised...it didnt have a single boring moment or a forced comedy scene.
It was so natural and spontaneous.....i just loved it to the core
did shed few tears as well as it reminded me of my teen fights with mom
the direction was superb..i didnt expect it to be so good that too from a female debutant director

Everyone is falling for Sridevi and English Vinglish. First Toronto gave it a STANDING OVATION. Then world press dubbed Sridevi as India's Meryl Streep. Then Big B blogged how the film and Sri's performance moved him to tears. Then Hrithik Roshan cancelled his outdoor shoot to stay in Mumbai for the upcoming premiere of English Vinglish. Then Rajnikanth saw it at a special screening in Chennai and said Sridevi has lived the role. Now Chiranjeevi is all eager to watch it. Sridevi is creating history.

Sridevi has begun her conquest of the Toronto Film Festival 2012 where her English Vinglish is premiering on 14 and 15 September. Advance Booking opened yesterday for both shows of English Vinglish SOLD OUT in first 15 minutes. Suniel Wadhwa, Ex-UTV Distribution Head has Tweeted that this is the ONLY film to have created such an impact at the festival this year.
