Synopsis

Meghna Naidu enacts the role of a sex worker in a film that aims to expose some harsh realities of rural India.

The movie, titled Rivaaz , is made by Ashok Nanda. The film's story is based on true facts about certain Indian villages where flesh trade is the livelihood of people. Women in such villages are pushed into prostitution while men become their pimps.

In 'Rivaaz', Meghna plays a girl named Chanda in one such village. Although her mother and father prompt her to become a prostitute, Chanda is against this tradition. And when she finally does succumb, she is unable to get customers and is beaten by her brother.

Ashok Nanda reportedly did extensive research on the subject. He has also visited some of these villages under cover.

When Meghna first heard the movie's subject, she refused to believe that such villages exist anymore. But Ashok Nanda provided her with irrefutable proof. That's when she realized the harsh realities many girls live under in these villages.

Meghna says working in 'Rivaaz' was a very disturbing experience. Even though she was playing just a character, she was disturbed to see how parents push their daughters into prostitution.

'Rivaaz' was mainly shot in Wai in Maharashtra.
