Eros International, a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry has announced a historic and record breaking opening for Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One, produced by Red Chillies Entertainments in association with Winford Productions which released across theatres worldwide on 26th October 2011. SRK’s super hero action film has set a new record at the Indian box office by earning a gross of Rs. 170 crore worldwide in the opening weekend (first five days of release).
The highly anticipated Diwali release triumphed at the box office with an incredible weekend gross collection of Rs. 137.25 crore (Net Collection of Rs. 96 crore) in India and Rs. 32.75 crore overseas. Since its release, Ra.One has been creating history by shattering regional, national and international box office record after record with the biggest Diwali day opening followed by the biggest single day collections for an Indian film and now the biggest ever weekend release for both India and overseas box office.
Ra.One opened across more than 4,000 plus screens worldwide (3,100 plus screens in India and 904 prints internationally, including 3D, Tamil and Telugu) and is the biggest Hindi grosser in south markets too.

Collection is not a mark of a movie hit or flop. It depends on the profit. So at most Ra One may be an average movie or flop. It can't be a HIT...superhit or blockbuster is far far way. Its my worst movie ever seen...after Fir vi dil hai hindustani.

Taran Adarsh confirms Ra 1 crashed on Monday. What records are they talking about? As for risks, well, Shankar already made Robot and raced past all box office records last year. SRK has not done anything new. Doing copy-paste job from 5-6 Hollywood sci-fi films is no risk or anything original. Neither is Ra 1 India's first superhero film. Krissh broke records in 2006 and Mr. India was a classic, bo megahit and one of a kind for the times it released.
Agree with moimeme! Stop comparing the two. If you are a SRK fan, be happy that the film is doing extremely well! This is coming from a huge Salman fan :)

To the anonymous who quoted Bollywoodhungama.com, that 92 Cr figure is for India Hindi version only. How about the Tamil and Telgu versions and overseas collections? They don't matter? Of course they do! That is how it has made 170 Cr!
To the person who says 3 Idiots is still running to packed houses in South Korea, China, etc...hey guess what? Eros International is planning to release Ra.One in eastern Europe, Middle East, China, South Korea, South America, etc...places 3 Idiots haven't been released in...so guess what now? Looking at how it made 170 Cr in just 5 days, soon it will surpass 3 Idiots and make way more than it after it releases in those places!
Oh and by the way, BOI can say whatever it wants, Red Chillies Entertainment and Eros International have already said that the cost of the movie is 130-150 Cr, not 175 Cr!

First of all, taking a risk to invest 150 cr, and then be able to recover that much amount is in itself a big thing. Its not that SRK just took already super hit brainless south Indian Movie and made a remake. If you can't appreciate the efforts and can't talk good about anyone, please do not open your mouth.
170 crores is gross collection. It falls short of justifying the budget of Ra 1, which was confirmed at 175 crores through BOI.
Also, what the hell is highest single day collection? What is there to dance about? Even Aamir's Mangal Pandey broke all records in terms of opening for any Indian film - with biggest weekend, biggest first week ever for any Indian film in 2005. It also also biggest grosser on ''Independence Day'' just as Ra 1 is for Diwali, till 2008!
Producers' numbers for 3 Idiots were more than 425 crores worldwide as of May 2010, and that film is still running to PACKED HOUSES in South Korea and Hong Kong. Recently completed Silver Jubilee in Taiwan and became the longest running foreign language film there. That's what you call RECORDS! That's what is HISTORY! The worldwide gross of 3 Idiots is still increasing as it continues to run in SK and HK. So keep its collections in mind before calling Ra 1 as biggest grosser or biggest earner.
Also, 170 crores is underwhelming for a film which had thrice the hype of 3 Idiots and Bodyguard, much highly priced tickets and released on many more screens. It should have done more. But today they are relying on fake figures, money from X, Y, Z rights to prove that they are not in losses.
Box Office India openly declared that it will be difficult for Ra 1 to even become a clean hit, let alone be the year's biggest hit or biggest grosser of all time!
South trade sites like Super Good Movies and Andhra Box Office have reported its regional versions have had disappointing collections and it is crashing like anything. Yet they claim to break records! LOL!
Allow me to quote Shah Rukh Khan, "As always my heart doesn't crunch numbers and heroes don't count zeros... but its nice to know how Ra.One is flying."

Collected approx Rs 92 cr nett in its 5-day opening weekend [Wed to Sun]. The day-wise figures are as follows:- Wed 18.5 cr, Thu 25.10 cr, Fri 16 cr, Sat 16 cr, Sun 17 cr [approx]. The figures are inclusive of business from all three versions [Hindi, Tamil and Telugu]. However, the fact cannot be denied that the business was not optimum on Saturday and Sunday especially. The 5-day weekend figures are a new record!

Ra.One has found it hard to make any headway on Sunday. The film may end with Sunday collections not much higher than Saturday.
Normally films jump at least 10% on Sunday but it seems unlikely in the case Ra.One unless the markets in South India and West Bengal are really strong.
The trend is not encouraging for Sunday in North India and when a major segment like North is finding it tough, it will be a huge surprise if the film manages to come out with a strong Sunday.
The overall weekend is still likely to excellent but the trend suggests the film will struggle in the long term.
The movie is a DISASTER.ACCEPT IT PINKVILLA.ITS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOVER THE HIGH COSTS.
