'Dabangg 2' mints Rs.100.78 crore in first week

After "Dabangg", "Bodyguard" and "Ek Tha Tiger", actor Salman Khan has done it once again. Within six days of its release, "Dabangg 2" has entered the Rs.100 crore-club with collections amounting to Rs.100.78 crore.
"Dabangg 2" is the sequel to the 2010 release "Dabangg", which was set in a village and had the rustic, rural flavour of Uttar Pradesh. The story of the sequel has shifted to a posh metropolitan city.
Made under the banner of Arbaaz Khan Productions, "Dabangg 2" has been written by Dilip Shukla. This is Arbaaz's first film as a director. The film released in over 3,500 screens across India Dec 21.
This year has been very lucky for Salman. Kabir Khan-directed "Ek Tha Tiger" was an Eid release and set the cash registers ringing, but "Dabangg 2" achieved this feat in spite of being a non-holiday release.
The film opened to a collection of Rs.21.10 crore and collected a whopping Rs.65.16 crore during the first three days.

Dabangg 2 grossed around 7.75 crore nett on Wednesday which is an excellent number for Wednesday. If we compare the normal seven day releases the figure is the best ever for a Wednesday. Three Idiots had grossed around 7.50 crore nett and Dabangg around 7 crore nett. The fisrt week will gross around 100 crore nett.
The film has collected 93 crore nett in six days but it shows how important it is for holidays to fall on the right days. If a film is releasing on a national holiday week its a must that holiday is in the first three days preferably first which was not the case with Dabangg 2.
Bodyguard was just over 94 crore nett after six days. Dabangg 2 will sustain very well in week two as the weekday numbers are solid but with film not benefitting a lot from the holiday period, the lifetime collections stay well below Three idiots and Ek tha Tiger

Film should score well in 2nd week too as there is no notable release from Bollywood though Tom Cruise starrer "Jack Reacher" will affect to some extent in multiplexes. "Dabngg 2" should collect 30 cr nett in 2nd week and this business will decide film's lifetime figure.
Anything less than 160 cr nett will be adisappointment for such a big release and 175 cr nett will make it blockbuster.
