"Kitani Mohabbat Hai" fame TV actor Karan Kundra says daily soaps do not involve any creativity and he has no plans to do them in the near future. "Anyone can do a daily soap but there is no creativity in that. I asked myself that what am I doing by doing these shows. And that is when I decided to something different," Karan told IANS. The model-turned-actor is currently anchoring teen crime show "Gumrah" on Channel V.
Regional flavours on tube; Gujarati shows dominate
Gujarati culture came right into Indian drawing rooms with the popular television show "Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka" in 1999 and, after more than a decade, it is still one of the strongest flavours on the tube. Those based in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra too abound on the small screen. Be it a weekly or a daily soap, the regional flavour is everywhere.
No fame, money in modelling: Abhishek Malik
After struggling for fame and money in the modelling world for three years, Delhi boy Abhishek Malik has finally got lucky with a key role in new TV show "Chhal...Sheh Aur Maat". "The main reason I have shifted from modelling to TV is because I was looking for fame," Abhishek told IANS in an interview. He won the Mr. Delhi title in 2009, and went on to walk the ramp for designers like Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal. But like many models in the Indian fashion industry, he wasn't satisfied.
Who's afraid of IPL? Not Hindi TV channels
Hindi television channels have geared up with new big ticket shows during the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), displaying no fear of losing their loyal audience to cricket. Starting March 31, Star Plus is coming up with a new singing reality show "Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar 2", to be judged by Shaan and Shantanu Moitra and hosted by Mandira Bedi. Sab TV has recently brought a new season of the popular "Movers & Shakers" with Shekhar Suman back to the telly world after 11 years.
'Uttaran' takes 18-year leap, Tina plays double role
Popular show "Uttaran" is set to take an 18-year leap, with actress Tina Datta playing a double role as 35-plus Ichcha and her young daughter Meethi. The show will air on Colors from March 26 and Tina is excited about her double role. "I feel privileged that the show that launched my career is also helping me take it forward in such a spectacular manner. I feel blessed that I not only get to play two different characters, but also get to experiment with my look," she said.
