Alia consciously avoided dad's banner as launch pad

Though Mahesh Bhatt is known for introducing new faces in filmdom, his daughter Alia decided to use Dharma Production's "Student Of The Year" as her launch pad as she was not looking for a convenient entry.
"I was already sorted and decided that I wouldn't be launched by my father's production (Vishesh Films). Honestly speaking, it's the easy option. Why wouldn't my father launch me? But I wanted to go somewhere else. I had to audition for it, I had to lose weight and present myself in a way that I can be accepted," Alia told reporters Thursday.
When she was asked whether by losing weight she was giving competition to much senior Farah Khan, who is also debuting as an actress with "Shirin Farahd Ki Toh Nikal Padi", director Karan Johar came to her rescue and said: "We will happily give her the debut award. She used to look at Alia and say I will give you a terrible shot and rubbish steps, so that I can win the debut award (Laughs)."
"Student Of The Year" also features Siddharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan and will be released Oct 19.

Top heroines kind of have to walk the thin line between hot and slutty. I remember a comment on a Katrina post about the reason guys like her is her virgin face (lol!!!!). But yeah, if you're going through the random creepy guy comments you know this is true (puke).
She could be all bold in her father's films but that'll kill off the virgin *cackle* appeal which kills off her top actress appeal. (I know tons of people are commenting on how young she looks but like I said the baby face sells) Even if she makes out with a dozen guys in her debut she'll still retain that K-Jo heroine appeal in a way vishesh films heroines can't.
She didn't debut under her father's banner because Vishesh banners may make economically feasible movies but it hardly makes stars.
Hope this movie does well

This is why we should appreciate people like srk,priyanka chopra who have gone through struggles in past and are so successful in their field because they worked hard for it.

actually prianka had an affair with akshay kumar pretty early in her career and got a lot of roles opposite him. you cant deny that sleeping with an a-list actor definitely confers benefits in terms of getting your foot in the door to get offered roles. pv pls publish

All star kids say how they had to work for it i.e audition, lose weight....but they all get the role anyway. Auditioning is just a formality. Not like they had to come to Mumbai, go from one audition to another meeting, look for a place to stay and manage their expenses at the same time.
The only actress who accepts that yes she was born with a silver spoon is Sonam Kapoor. I prefer her honesty over all these dumb statements about how they had to work for it.

You are so right. Anyone of us can do her role if given a dream debut, decent salary( even experienced junior artists barely get enough) and a mentor to guide us.

looks like they were in such a hurry to cast her that they overlooked how much of a kid she looks.

STFU Alia Bhatt...PLZ, own the fact that you had it "WAY EASY" & from the trailer it is clear that Karan didn't choose you because you had a great body, look, acting & dancing skills, or star presence. If Karan Johar offered me a lead role, I would learned the memorize the entire script, dialogues of everyone, and dance steps of including myself, male actors, and the backups.
Somehow I doubt that she had to struggle very hard.

I understand what you mean but the thing is how do you know she didn't have to work hard she probably did .. & only people can be biased as she does have connections to the industry but at the same time it's not right just to Assume that she didn't work hard .. we all don't really know what they have to go through.. even if sonam is honest .. how can you like some one who plainly tells you I have everything I want .. & i 'm really bad at acting ..when there is people who audition & suffer.. though yes I agree maybe Alia didn't work hard but the question is we all were not there to see whether she did or not .. so we should keep an open mind. =)

@serendipity01 I agree with u 100% ! but the thing i that she cud choose Vishesh over Dharma...coz SOTY is a flop....not intresting at all....but its right that they r just lucky that theyr star kids :)
Good thing she didn't start off in the home production or else her father would have cast her as sorceress porn star who murders men for pleasure and for a 19 year old that would have been a bit much. And with KJo as long as your back is straight and you look cute, hey you might as well get the OSCAR!

Very funny, I wanted to get it difficult and not easy, lol ... your dad makes semi porn movies and you chose the safer way by auditioning for Karan's movie... who knows, maybe your dad called him and begged for a movie for you
umm..we can see the trailer and notice "how hard" she must have auditioned for the role! and for the 'losing weight' part...hell ya, if KJO plans to launch me in a movie tomorrow, I will be willing to lose as much weight as he wants and will stop eating for a couple of days! LOL...
And why would she choose Mahesh Bhatt productions (that makes sleazy movies and only produces hits when Emraan Khan is their hero), obviously she couldnt act opposite her cousin Emraan and kiss him so she would obviously prefer to do a Dharma Production film rather than Visheshth production!
