Kahaani 2012

I'm new here at pinkvilla, so don't really know how things go about here...but I found this the most informative and up to dAte site about Bollywood...there was one thing I noticed about the movie kahaani which was released this 2012 and got raving reviews about its unique twisted end.

The other day I saw an Angelina Jolie movie called 'taking lives'....and was surprised...actually not really , but the ending was so similar to kahanis ending.....well I thought pinkvilla would find tht interesting...infact if I someone could put this up on as a main post I'd like that....the truth should be out there and as an avid watcher I was disappointed with kahanis similar infact exact copied scene of the ending!

Cheerios.

Kahaani is definitely inspired by Taking Lives, but its story completely veers off from the English version and ends up being a totally different and unique movie, and imo much better. Kahaani is probably the best movie Bollywood produced this year.

I can't remember Taking Lives that well but from what I recall, Angelina's character got pregnant later on in the film whereas Vidya (Bidya lol) was pregnant right out the gate.

Yes Kahaani's ending is similar to the end of Taking Lives but the story is completely different. In Kahaani Vidya Balan's character Vidya Bagchi was meant to portray Goddess Durga killing the evil Mahisasura in keeping with the Bengali theme of the film. Especially the time when she stabs Milan Damji in the neck is a complete reference to Ma Durga and a woman's inner Shakti. Please don't say that Angelina Jolie was supposed to portray Goddess Durga. And while maybe Sujoy Ghosh did take inspiration not a single part of the film is like Taking lives and is an absolutely stupendous film, very unique, original & thrilling. And firstly this isnt an unknown fact-toi and ht carried a story on it. But I know that inspired or not Kahaani is one of the finest films i've seen this decade and so instead of aplauding our few intelligently made films we shouldnt be criticizing them.
