In an interview to Mumbai Mirror , RGV opened up on the Department debacle. Excerpts added.
Isn’t it a blame game going on after the film crashed?
I am not blaming anyone except myself. The biggest mistake I made was to go to an actor as unprofessional and as unimaginably erratic as Dutt.

RGV has taken to twitter and vowed to not work with Sanjay Dutt and Dharam Oberoi(CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions) ever again. He tweeted, "Whatever else happening to Department I am supremely happy that I don't want to see the faces of Sanjay Dutt and Dharam Oberoi (CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions) for the rest of my life". He also added, "From forcing me to take Kangana (Kangana Ranaut) out of the film to constantly cornering me to change screenplay, I had the most horrible time working with Dutt".

As per Box office India, Department had a 'disastrous' opening week. The collections at multiplexes were extremely low though the single screens were better. Released in 44 theatres in Delhi, it managed to collect just 55 lakhs.
As per critics, average performances, same-old-story, and lousy direction apparently leave the audience asking for more.
