2012 has been an awesome-wawsome year for the movies. While there have been a bunch of blockbusters, not all these money-making machines were strong in terms of content. Here are the films that were not only truly fabulous scripts but also boasted of beautiful stories and spectacular performances. They triumphed everywhere and even made India proud at the international film festivals. And the fact that besides tremendous critical acclaim, these films also set the box-office on fire proves that content was truly the star in 2012.

Anurag Kashyap's impressive work in Gangs of Wasseypur seems to have convinced Amitabh Bachchan to forgive him for his earlier transgressions. Anurag committed Bollywood's equivalent to professional suicide when he publicly took on Amitabh Bachchan and criticized him for delaying the release of Chittagong, a movie that was competing with Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se starring Abhishek Bachchan.

Although only three B-town cult movies — Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan — have managed to make it to the Oscars listing, the enthusiasm to nominate their films for selections to the big O is unabated among Indian filmmakers.
