Om Prakash Puri, OBE (18 October 1950 – 6 January 2017), was an exceptionally talented Indian actor renowned for his appearances in a wide spectrum of cinema, including mainstream commercial Hindi films, as well as Bengali, Kannada, English, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, and Marathi films. His remarkable versatility extended to independent, art films, and international cinema, earning him a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest actors in the realm of world cinema.
Puri's contributions to the world of cinema were recognized with several prestigious awards, including two National Film Awards for Best Actor, two Filmfare Awards, and India's fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri, bestowed upon him in 1990. In 2004, he received the honorary title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
