This past week, there happened to be a lot of conversation about how the top 4 out of the top 10 shows on the TRP charts belonged to Ekta Kapoor and these shows, though a part of the top 10 for a really long time, have been around for quite some time now. The TV Czarina knows how to create content that is reachable and understandable at so many levels than just one, and maybe that is why it sells and always works well with the audiences irrespective on content that is totally new.

A successful show does not come out of anywhere and there needs to be a lot of prepping before it can be taken on floors, leave away putting it on-air. Some shows fail, and some shows turn out to be huge hits, all of which for a reason, after a certain idea has been created and steps to achieve the same have been taken. So when 4 of Kapoor's show made it to the top 4, we thought of trying to decode how she does it and how does it strike the right chord with the audiences.

Kapoor creates FLAGSHIP shows

Take the example of a show like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, a show that had the base story which could be taken forward and still told to people who belong to a different generation with leads that belong to a different generation as well. To manage to get a response even close to how the original show received is an achievement, and it is possible because of the content. A Naagin franchise is yet another example where over the period of now 3 years, the viewership was never lost, and yet, the story continued to proceed just fine.

Unusual yet PERFECT pairings

We have to give it away to Ekta and her team for bringing in jodis we never thought we could get acquainted with on screen. Take an example of Pearl V Puri and Surbhi Jyoti for instance, the two have managed to create such an effect that fans want to see the pair once again in Pearl's next show, Bepanah Pyaar. In the past too, we have seen pairings that were unusual and yet worked wonders for the entire team and of course, the show for gaining the numbers. Even that of Erica Fernandes and Karan Singh Grover for instance, if KSG does join in that is.

The thought process behind the CONTENT

Ekta Kapoor brought in a spin-off to Kumkum Bhagya at a time when the first ever spin-off for Indian television did not manage to get the numbers. While the idea of spin-off is to start it off with a character based out of the original story, with Kundali Bhagya, the characters were based from the original story and yet, they were new, and that is when the strength of content comes in.

Plot TWISTS when needed

Right from a leap to killing someone, or even exits for that matter, there continues to be twists and turns at a time when one would least expect it or just when the show begins to feel like a drag. With Balaji shows, there is this unusual thing about twists and turns that keeps you glued, even when it does not make any sense, it does have you hooked to the story if you have been watching it for a long time.

Constant CHANGES

While changes not always work, but knowing when to bring them and actually implementing them is the right move. Kumkum Bhagya, for example, brought in a huge generation leap and saw the entry of multiple new characters, and while it could have failed, or brought down the numbers, it did not, which means the changes were well accepted by the viewers. Even Naagin 3, though the story was such that Karishma Tanna's character was shaped in that manner, she did make an exit sooner than one might expect, and who knows it wasn't a part of the original plan per se?

(P.S: We are not saying that she never goes wrong with what she brings on the table, but somehow, almost every single time, it does hit it off well with the viewers.)
