Bhumi Pednekar drops out of The Royals franchise after season 1 as the show moves away from romance focus.
Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter will not romance anymore? That seems to be the case for the fans of The Royals, as a new report claims the actress’s decision to walk away from the production. As of Sunday, the star is said to have been kept out of the project without any bad blood, as the makers plan for an organic way ahead, focused on the royal family portrayed in the storyline instead.
The Royals Season 2 to be made sans Bhumi Pednekar
According to a Mid-Day report, Bhumi Pednekar will not be a part of season 2 of The Royals. The Netflix show, which was first released back in 2025. The decision was seemingly made aiming towards moving the plot away from the romance between the characters of Sophia and Aviraaj, played by Ishaan Khatter.
As per an insider’s words shared in the report, “When you do a romance, it is the story that leads. When the show came out, what resonated [with the audience] was the family — Ishaan [Khatter], Sakshi [Tanwar], Zeenat, and the world of The Royals — which feels different. We left season one at an unresolved romance. There was no decision to carry it forward. There was no fight with Bhumi. The makers are simply letting the story lead forward organically in the second season.”
The actress will meanwhile move on with different roles, one of which includes a secret project with Imran Khan for the same OTT house. She is also expected to take on season 2 of Daldal, the Prime Video show in which she entered the cop universe of her own.
Apart from the two leads, Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter, the cast lineup also included Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Vihaan Samat, Dino Morea, and Milind Soman. After releasing in May 2025, The Royals received mixed reviews.
