Ranveer Singh buys The Immortals of Meluha rights
Seems like Ranveer Singh has already started brainstorming the action plan for his next project. An insider told the above-mentioned publication that the superstar was to lead The Immortals of Meluha. However, the project never materialised.
But since Singh was fascinated by the world, and had the dream of playing Lord Shiva in the spectacle, he decided to buy the rights the minute they expired from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Apparently, Ranveer procured it under his own banner, Maa Kasam Films.
According to their source, “Ranveer has bagged the Immortal of Meluha trilogy for a humongous sum of Rs. 40 crores. It's a passion project for him, and he has put it under development.” Apparently, the Dhurandhar star relied on the National Award-winning filmmaker to turn writer Amish Tripathi’s fantasy novel into a cinematic spectacle.
But since he is now in a position to pick the director for the project, he has decided to become its showrunner. “He is committed to bringing the Meluha trilogy to the spectacle,” shared the source.
Recently, Pinkvilla exclusively reported that the film adaptation of the novel is currently in the writing stage, and Singh and Ananya Birla of Birla Studios are aggressively working on it.
“Ranveer has been passionate about bringing Meluha to the big screen for a long time now. The acquisition happened recently, and the project is now officially under development,” a reliable source told us.
It was also revealed that the makers are approaching the franchise as a long-term cinematic universe, and the plan is to tell the story over 3 films. “The writing work has already begun, and the team is taking its time to crack the screenplay and world-building. The first part is expected to go on floors in 2028,” the source added.
