Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the He-Man of Indian cinema, passed away at the age of 89 on Monday, November 24, in Mumbai. The veteran actor, whose career spanned over six decades, left an unparalleled legacy in Indian cinema. He is survived by Prakash Kaur, Hema Malini, Sunny and Bobby, Ajeeta, Vijeta, Esha, Ahana Deol and several grandchildren.
Dharmendra had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month and was discharged on November 12. Today, an ambulance was seen outside his residence, marking the final moments of the iconic actor.

Bollywood stars and fans expressed their grief on social media. Kareena Kapoor shared old pictures of Dharmendra with Raj Kapoor, writing, “Forever in Power.” Kiara Advani posted a black-and-white photo of the veteran actor on Instagram.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar took to X, saying, “I'm deeply saddened to hear about the passing of the legendary Dharmendra ji, the real He-Man of Indian cinema. He was always vibrant & full of humor. His remarkable contributions mark the end of an era in Indian cinema and will be eternally remembered. Om Shanti.”
Ajay Devgn wrote, “Heartbroken to hear about Dharam ji. His warmth, generosity and presence inspired generations of artists. The industry has lost a legend… and we’ve lost someone who shaped the very soul of our cinema. Rest in peace, Dharam ji. Om Shanti.”
Akshay Kumar shared in an emotional tribute, “Growing up, Dharmendra ji was the hero every boy wanted to be…our industry’s original He-Man. Thank you for inspiring generations. You’ll live on through your films and the love you spread. Om Shanti.”
Suniel Shetty mentioned, “Strength wrapped in grace. Stardom wrapped in warmth. Heroism wrapped in a pure heart. That’s the legacy of Dharam Paaji. To the world he was the He-Man. To those who knew him, he was pure warmth. Rest In Power Dharam Paaji.”
Other celebrities also paid tribute. Ananya Panday wrote, “The greatest. Om Shanti.” Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan tweeted, “You stood tall not just in stature, but in spirit. Dharmendra ji, thank you for showing us that strength can also be kind. Om Shanti.” Kajol said, “The OG of the good man is gone, and the world is poorer for it…RIP Dharamji.”
Boman Irani wrote, “It is painful to write this… A face of rugged handsomeness, yet he exuded kindness like no other…We say goodbye and will always be grateful for the wonderful memories.” Sanjay Dutt wrote, “Some people don’t just work in your life… they live in your heart. Dharam ji was one of them. It’s a void that can’t be described. My thoughts are with Sunny, Bobby, and the entire family.”
NTR tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dharmendra ji… An era he defined can never be replaced.” Kapil Sharma added, “Goodbye Dharmapaji. Your departure is extremely heartbreaking; it feels as though I've lost my father for the second time… May God grant you a place at His feet. #DharmendraDeol.”
Dharmendra’s contribution to Bollywood as an actor, philanthropist, and cultural icon will be remembered for generations. His films, charm, and larger-than-life persona continue to inspire fans and artists alike.
