Ever since the highly anticipated first look of their upcoming romantic-comedy, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, dropped online, the internet has been in an absolute frenzy. However, some also found it similar to Govinda’s 2006 movie, Sandwich. Now, the makers issued a clarification.

The teaser of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai features Varun Dhawan in a hilarious double-trouble love triangle alongside actresses Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. After watching the first look, fans instantly drew major parallels to Govinda’s iconic 2006 comedy drama, Sandwich. From the dual relationships to the chaotic family dynamic, netizens were convinced it was an official remake.
After the rumors of it being a remake spread online, the makers decided to address the elephant in the room. Sharing a public notice, they wrote, “It has come to our attention that there are discussions in the trade and amongst the public regarding our film, ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.’ Tips, Raurani Ji and David Dhawan Ji, along with the cast and crew, would like to clarify that the film is an original story and screenplay and bears no resemblance to any other film.”
The statement further stated that they have poured their hearts into making the film and sincerely look forward to welcoming audiences to cinemas in June this year, for a fun-filled family experience.
The film has already had a whirlwind journey regarding its release timeline. After briefly shuffling dates to secure the best holiday window, the team recently locked down June 5, 2026, as its grand theatrical release date.
