Smita Patil, one of the most respected actors of her time, passed away in 1986 shortly after the birth of their son, Prateik. Raj Babbar was left to navigate personal grief alongside public scrutiny, while also embracing his responsibilities as a father to their newborn child. Recalling her final moments with Patil in an interview with Reddif.com, Babbar had shared, “Throughout the journey from home to hospital, she kept apologising and I told her that everything would be okay. She looked at me with tears in her eyes. Her look said it all. The doctor came out after an hour and said she had gone into a coma.”
