Imran Khan breaks silence on divorce from Avantika Malik after girlfriend Lekha Washington reacts to 'homewrecker' label

Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan, who stole millions of hearts with his boy-next-door charm in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, has been making waves lately. After taking a decade-long hiatus from the silver screen, the actor is back in the limelight following his recent comeback with an Aamir Khan-backed project. Imran Khan on parting ways with Avantika Malik
Imran Khan was in a conversation with ETimes, talking about his decision to end his marriage with his childhood sweetheart Avantika Malik. Setting the record straight, the actor explained that his separation was much needed as, at some point, it started feeling unhealthy.
“With all of the pain and complications of that separation, somewhere you kind of weighed out, and you weighed the alternative,” spilled the Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos actor. He further added, “Which is to propagate an unhealthy pattern and teach an unhealthy pattern to your own child. Within that, I weighed what I consider to be the lesser of two evils.”
Imran stated that he stayed away from the limelight and didn’t feel the need to explain anything to anyone because, in his mind, he wasn’t a public person.
“I said I have left that life. I am not in the spotlight anymore. You guys are curious about what’s happening with me? I don’t feel like I need to talk to anyone. It’s only the last couple of years, as I started to step back into public life, that it seemed okay, I should set some of the record straight,” he said.
Imran and Avantika, who tied the knot in a dreamy ceremony in 2011 and share a daughter named Imara, parted ways in 2019. Looking back at how his relationship evolved with their daughter, the I Hate Luv Storys actor noted, “Words are inadequate. I can never find enough words or potent enough words to express the joy, the love, the value, and the meaning that she’s brought to my life.”
He divulged that the girl was his ‘lighthouse’. “Through a lot of complicated and difficult times, this girl was my light. This girl. You know, kind of the beacon that you set. You set your compass that way,” Imran expressed.
Imran has now found love in his girlfriend, Lekha Washington. However, the actor and artist is often on the receiving end of judgment. Sharing her opinions on being called a ‘homewrecker’, she told the publication that since she was 16, she has been called all kinds of names.
“Labels like 'sl*t' and 'homewrecker' are often used to diminish and control women. They don't define me, and I refuse to shrink myself to fit someone else's need to cut me down. That's where I stand today. People who use these labels don't know the reality. No one truly understands the intricacies of someone else's relationship, so how can they pass judgment?” she quipped.
