Karan Johar recently took to social media and unfollowed several of his close friends and actors. While speculations have been running wild about the filmmaker’s sudden move, there appears to be a different reason behind the decision.

Why did Karan Johar unfollow his friends on Instagram?

According to a report by Filmfare, Karan Johar unfollowed the accounts as part of a social media strategy, and that it had nothing to do with any particular star, page, or person. While the move sparked speculation online, sources reportedly stated that it was merely a strategic decision related to social media management.

For those unaware, Karan Johar recently unfollowed several Bollywood celebrities, including close friends Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Manish Malhotra, and others. The activity grabbed attention because KJo is known for his long-standing friendships and close industry relationships.

Netizens also noticed that actors like Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Malaika Arora, and Ananya Panday no longer appeared on the filmmaker’s following list. Interestingly, he is also said to have unfollowed Kartik Aaryan, despite the actor being set to headline Dharma Productions’ upcoming project, Naagzilla.

Moreover, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is reportedly the only Bollywood actor currently on Karan’s Instagram following list. While initial speculations continued to circulate online, it now appears that Karan’s decision to unfollow even his close friends was simply part of a social media strategy.

Co-written and directed by Vivek Soni, the film follows two college lovers whose relationship is tested as they enter adulthood and face new responsibilities, forcing them to reconsider their idea of love.

Apart from the lead duo, the movie also featured Aastha Singh, Paresh Pahuja, Manish Chaudhari, Iravati Harshe Mayadev, Charu Shankar, Atul Kumar, Akhil Kaimal, Javed Khan, and several others in key roles. The film was released in theatres on May 22, 2026, and received mixed reviews from critics.
