For her film Mimi, a film centered around surrogacy, Kriti Sanon had to undergo a massive physical transformation and gain 15 kilograms to convincingly play a pregnant woman.
While she was gaining weight, the actress decided to strategically use this window to freeze her eggs. The actor explained that she had a two-month break from filming solely dedicated to gaining weight. Realizing that the hormone injections required for egg freezing cause intense physical bloating, she decided to align the procedure with her weight-gain phase.
“I froze my eggs. Very smartly, I did it during that time when I had to gain weight for Mimi,” Kriti shared. “It makes you bloat, and I was anyway gaining weight. I had two months of no shoot. All I'm supposed to do is gain weight, and this is a film on surrogacy. Let me just do it,” she added.
While the decision was a practical one, Kriti also divulged that there was a point when she felt almost hormonally disrupted, almost like a pregnant woman with mood swings going completely off the charts.
Kriti also acknowledged her privilege, adding, “I know that everyone cannot afford it, and I am fortunate that I could afford it so I did it.”
For Kriti, freezing her eggs was liberating herself. By choosing to preserve her fertility, she took the pressure off her personal relationships.
“I'm glad that I did because I don't want to have that [biological clock stress] in my head," she said. “Whether it's marriage, whether it's kids, you need to do it when you feel it inside, you feel ready for it. It shouldn't come out of some clock or a pressure,” the Cocktail 2 actress expressed.
