Priyadarshan drops major update on Hera Pheri 3: ‘I am not associated with it and film will never hit the screen’
Hera Pheri 3 was one of the most anticipated sequels, directed by Priyadarshan. However, it may never see the light of day.
Hera Pheri 3, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles, has been awaiting an update for quite some time. Now, it seems fans may have to brace themselves for a disappointing development.
Priyadarshan confirms not being part of Hera Pheri 3
Speaking with Hindustan Times, Priyadarshan said, “What Firoz (Nadiadwala) has said is true. I am not associated with Hera Pheri 3 at present. To the best of my knowledge, Hera Pheri 3 will never hit the screens due to lots of issues and personal conflicts. Whether I am involved or not is unimportant.”
The director’s statement comes after producer Firoz Nadiadwala confirmed that Priyadarshan is no longer associated with the project. However, the filmmaker added that “things are on the right track and moving in the right direction.”
More details about the Hera Pheri franchise
Hera Pheri is a Hindi-language comedy film that was released in 2000. Starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, the film is a remake of the Malayalam movie Ramji Rao Speaking (1989), which was itself inspired by the American TV film See the Man Run (1971).
The movie revolves around two young men, Raju and Shyam, and their landlord, Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, who are in desperate need of money. Their lives take an unexpected turn when a cross-connected ransom call changes everything, prompting them to come up with a plan to make a fortune.
Over the years, the film has attained cult status in Bollywood pop culture and is widely regarded as one of the greatest comedy films ever made. Following the success of the first installment, a sequel titled Phir Hera Pheri, directed by the late Neeraj Vora, was released.
