Sushmita Sen’s ex-partner Lalit Modi slams trolls calling her ‘gold digger’: ‘I was like a kept boyfriend’
Lalit Modi backed Suhshmita Sen against being called a gold digger when they were together. They broke the internet, back in 2022, by dropping their pictures together.
Back in July 2022, former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi broke the internet by announcing his relationship with Bollywood diva Sushmita Sen. Their images together triggered a social media storm. While fans were shocked, a section of the internet targeted the former Miss Universe, labelling her a gold digger. Now, Modi has come to her defence. Read on!
Lalit Modi defends Sushmita Sen against the gold digger tag
Sushmita Sen’s ex-partner, Lalit Modi, came out in strong defence of the actress. While talking to Humans of Bombay, he backed Sen against being called a gold digger when they were together. The popular businessman clarified that Sushmita is an incredibly wealthy, self-made woman who never relied on him for a single penny.
“Sushmita is very beautiful, a very well-to-do lady. She has more diamonds than anybody I have known on this planet. She's a very wealthy lady. She has done it on her own,” he opined. "She would never accept anything from anybody. So, when people called her a gold digger, that was completely wrong," he said.
Highlighting how fiercely independent the Aarya actress is, Modi shared details about the time they spent together. “There was a time when I went out with her and didn't have to pay for anything. She paid for everything. I was like a kept boyfriend. She's a remarkable, self-made lady. If we can say, Sushmita was not a gold digger, Lalit was a diamond digger. And she was the diamond,” he added.
In the same podcast, he reflected on the 2022 social media announcement featuring their vacation pictures. Apparently, Lalit dropped the bomb post right in front of her. “She didn't think I would actually post it. We were arguing about something on the plane, and she said, 'You're not going to post this.' I laughed and pressed the button,” he expressed.
By the time they landed, it was all over the internet. But Sen never asked him to take it down. “We had a beautiful story, and I don't regret one minute of it,” the entrepreneur said, adding that the distances were too much for them.
