Vaastav 2: Sanjay Dutt confirms his return as Raghu, wants Rajkumar Hirani to continue Munna Bhai series
At the Khalnayak Returns launch event, Sanjay Dutt broke his silence on his upcoming collaboration with Mahesh Manjrekar for Vaastav 2. Here's what he said.
Before Sanjay Dutt became known as Munna, he was Raghu from the 1999 crime-action movie, Vaastav: The Reality. It’s been decades since the film was released, and his fans still can’t get over the gangster’s unmatched swag and aura. Hence, when he recently confirmed his return with the iconic character in Vaastav 2, his fans jumped in joy.
Sanjay Dutt confirms Vaastav 2
In January 2025, Pinkvilla exclusively reported that Sanjay Dutt is in talks with Mahesh Manjrekar to return as Raghu in Vaastav 2. Now, at the Khalnayak Returns launch event, the actor announced that Vaastav 2 is definitely on the cards.
At the event, when he was quizzed about reprising the iconic character, Dutt divulged, “We are working on Vaastav 2.” When asked if another instalment of the Munna Bhai franchise is in the pipeline, Sanjay added, “You’ll have to ask Raju Hirani. Raju, please make Munna Bhai again!”
While talking to us about the cult movie, an insider close to the project said that director-actor Mahesh Manjrekar has cracked an idea for the sequel. He added, “It’s a franchise film, and not a continuation. Mahesh has cracked an idea that is in sync with the world of Vaastav and has discussed the same with Sanjay Dutt, who is all excited and charged up to play Raghu again. Mahesh is presently working to develop the idea into a screenplay, and Sanju is waiting to hear the entire subject.”
We were also informed that it will be produced by Subhash Kale. Moreover, it would be a two-hero subject, and once the script is locked, Mahesh and his team will look at casting an actor from the younger generation to play the parallel lead. “It’s all work in progress at the moment at a very nascent stage, but the conversations for Vaastav 2 are very much on,” the source added.
Currently, all eyes are on Khalnayak Returns, which was recently announced by the actor and his team. Sharing a gory poster of his upcoming movie, Dutt wrote, “Har kahaani ka ek waqt hota hai. aur uska waqt aa gaya hai. ‘Khalnayak Returns’.”
