Rapper and singer, Yo Yo Honey Singh is all over the internet as he recently opened up about his mental health struggles during the peak of his career. Singh, who previously revealed his bipolar disorder diagnosis and his temporary exit from the entertainment industry, recently shared that Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar had repeatedly warned him about the impact of his negative lifestyle.
Honey Singh on difficult phase in his life
During his appearance on the ABtalks podcast, Honey Singh reflected on the years between 2011 and 2014, when he was dominating the music industry but internally battling chaos. According to the rapper, fame, money and success at a young age deeply changed his personality and mindset. The rapper clarified that he does not blame the entertainment industry for his downfall. Instead, he believes his own decisions and attitude pushed him into a dark space despite achieving extraordinary fame.
Opening up about that turbulent period, Honey Singh admitted that he had completely lost control over himself. He said, “I was not happy. I was at my peak in 2013 and 2014. I was not in my senses. My ideology was different at that time. When I made it, I used to walk differently, talk differently, and disrespect everyone. I used to think that I did it all. I even used to call myself God. I was making money and getting successful at a very young age. I was in a very demonic state of mind. I didn’t like that version of myself.”
Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar warned him
Honey Singh also recalled interacting closely with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars during his meteoric rise. He mentioned working with legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, describing them as grounded individuals despite their immense success.
“I don’t want to blame the entertainment industry for anything. I got the chance to share screen space with legends and have personal access to their lives at a very young age. People like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar are such simple people, there is no darkness in them. They used to observe me and tell me to stay away from what I was doing because it was wrong. Especially Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar. Shah Rukh Khan told me many times, ‘This is going to spoil you, finish you, and destroy you,’” the singer revealed.
Honey Singh's work front
After stepping away from the spotlight for several years to focus on his recovery, Honey Singh has returned to music and live performances. In 2025, the rapper lent his voice to the song Jhoom Sharabi from De De Pyaar De 2, starring Ajay Devgn.
