England on Thursday made it to the finals of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as they crushed Australia in the second semi-final of at Edgbaston. The Eoin Morgan-led side produced a scintillating bowling performance and followed it with as sound batting show, leaving Australia in shambles. They will now face New Zealand in the final at Lord’s on Sunday.

 

Earlier, batting first, Australia found themselves in deep trouble as an excellent spell of bowling by Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer made life hard for batsmen. Jofra Archer got the big scalp of and Chris Woakes sent back dangerous David Warner and young Peter Handscomb to reduce Australia to 14/3.

 

However, experienced campaigner, Steve Smith and Alex Carey made sure the Men in Yellow remain alive in the game. They formed a valuable stand of 103 runs before tweaker Adil Rashid had Australia in trouble again. He scalped two back to back wickets to put the pressure back on Aaron Finch’s men.

Steve Smith was later run out on 85 runs as Australia finished up below-par 223 runs. Woakes was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 8-0-20-3 while Rashid also picked three-for. 

 

England, in reply, started explosively. The in-form duo of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow started to take Aussie bowlers on from the word go. A quick-fire knock of 85 runs in 65 balls by Roy almost made it a one-sided affair. Later, captain, Eoin Morgan, and Joe Root chipped in with 45 and 49-run unbeaten cameos to take England home in 32.1 overs with eight wickets in hand.
