Australia meet Pakistan on Wednesday just a few days after going down to India by 36 runs. They will be eager to get their campaign back on track, but the task will not be as easy, as they face Pakistan, who are coming into the game with a win over England. Their last game, however, was washed out due to rain.

Australia have one of the most intimidating batting attacks in the world, with Steven Smith, David Warner and Aaron Finch capable of sending the best of bowlers to the cleaners. Finch, in particular, was on fire against the Pakistanis in a bilateral series in April, and he will look forward to continue his form. Warner meanwhile scored a slow fifty against India and looked out of touch but showed his mettle in the IPL, while Smith is in fine form after his return to international cricket.

Pakistan too have one of the most promising batters at the top of the order. Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaaman and Imam-ul-Haq have created waves with their batting in the last few years, but how they tackle the seam of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, who have combined 12 wickets among them in the World Cup will be crucual.

Pakistan have searing pacers in their ranks as well, with Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz standing tall in the competition thus far. With the top order and the bowling going neck-to-neck, the result of this game will likely be decided in the middle overs.

Pakistan have an inconsistent middle order, while Australia, with players like Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell, seem more settled. Australia also have Adam Zampa in their ranks, who did well in all games except against India, while Pakistan's spinners have not been among regular wickets. Considering this aspect, the defending champions seem the favourites.
