Mitchell Starc could be a wrecker in chief against the Lankans and he would be eager to send back Karunaratne early.

Sri Lanka take on Australia in the ICC World Cup on Saturday, and the onus will be on the Lankans to  come to the party after just four points from four games. The Asian team have been struggling in the format and have not fared well in the competition, and the lack of consistent match-winners has come to haunt them.

However, if there is one player from whom there will be a lot of expectations, it is skipper Dimuth Karunaratne. In swinging conditions, he was the lone player to keep his end up against New Zealand while facing Trent Boult and Mett Henry earlier in the competition and carried his bat to score a fifty.

He will be up against the duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins on Saturday, and the task will not be an easy one. Starc proved his credentials in the last game, and he now has nine wickets in the CWC. He constantly bowls around the 145kmph-mark and his accurate bowling makes him a lethal bowler to face.

Karunaratne's ability to see off the new ball and defend resolutely allows his partner to take risks while he holds one end up. The Kennington Oval will produce a good batting track, and if Karunaratne can get his eye in, he will be tough to bowl to. However, he suffers against the ball that moves in the air and the ones that come into him after pitching. He often looks to play on the backfoot, which is an area that Starc could exploit.
