Five time World Cup winners and defending champions Australia take on Sri Lanka in the 20th match of the tournament at the Kennington Oval, London on 15th June. It was at the same venue where they went down to Team India by 36 runs. Though they have won three out of their four games, they are yet to perform to their maximum potential. Their run scoring has been majorly dominated by Skipper Aaron Finch, David Warner and Steve Smith. Their bowling too has been heavily reliant on star pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. Also, an injury to Marcus Stoinis means that there would be added pressure on Glenn Maxwell to deliver the goods with the ball.

Sri Lanka on the other hand, are placed fifth in the points table with a win against Afghanistan, a loss and a couple of washouts. Their batting is heavily dependent upon skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera. The other batsmen need to step up and help their side to post competitive totals. In the two matches they played, they could barely manage 136 and 201. They need to perform exceedingly well in all the three departments to post a challenge to the Australian side.

Trivia:

Lasith Malinga who has picked up 46 wickets in World Cup cricket needs 3 more wickets to equal Sri Lankan counterpart Chaminda Vaas. If he does so, he would be the 4th highest wicket taker and the leading wicket taker for Sri Lanka in World Cups.

Glenn Maxwell has a strike rate of 183.41 in World Cups.
