Australia’s top-order batsman, Usman Khawaja was on Sunday ruled out of the remainder of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 due to a hamstring injury. Matthew Wade has been called as a replacement.

Khawaja pulled his hamstring while playing the last group stage match against South Africa on Saturday. He was retired hurt at the begining of innings and later reappeared at the back end. However, after the match, it was found that it would take more than three weeks for his to recover, hence enforcing his exit from the squad.

"Ussie's (Usman Khawaja) got a hamstring strain so he'll be out for probably three to four weeks which is a real shame but we have to work hard on getting him up for the Ashes now," Australian coach, Justin Langer confirmed.

"Such a pity for him, he's been so integral to how we've been playing. Like Shaun [Marsh] I feel sad for him that he's going to miss the World Cup semi-final."

It can prove to be a big blow for Men in Yellow as they face a tough challenge against arch-rivals, England in the semi-final. Khawaja had shown some touch with the bat recently.

Meanwhile, Australia still has a power-packed batting line-up and Matthew Wade, who is in top form, will add to that.
