The match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was called off without a ball being bowled. Sri Lankan team has found themselves on the receiving end of the relentless rain more than once in the tournament. This was the second instance for the Sri Lankan team where they had to share a point in the tournament. Their previous game against the Men in Green was abandoned as well forcing the teams to share the point which also reflected in their rankings in the points table. Both the teams would be disappointed of being forced to share a point as every point counts in a tournament as big as World Cup.

This also reflects their position in the points table. Sri Lanka are now in the 5th position with four points whereas, Bangladesh are in the 7th position with 3 points in the tournament.

However, this is not the first instance when a match was called off in the tournament due to rain. Sri Lanka’s second game in the tournament against the Afghans was also affected by rain where they won by 34 runs. Their next game against Pakistan was called off. India’s practice session was also affected by the rain and the team was forced to cancel their training session at Nottingham ahead of their next match against the Black Caps.

Sri Lanka will play next against the Aussies on Saturday, 15th June whereas, Bangladesh will take on West Indies on Monday, 17th June.
