Alpha Box Office Collections: Alia Bhatt - Sharvari starrer nets Rs. 20 Cr in two days in India

Alpha netted Rs. 11.50 crore approx on its second day at the Indian box office, which marks 25 per cent growth from its opening day. That takes the two-day box office collections for the Alia Bhatt fronted film to Rs. 20.50 crore nett approx. These numbers may not be enough for the costs involved, but in the context of the circumstances under which the film was released, they can be termed good.
The growth on Saturday probably could have been better since the film is heavily lopsided in the bigger centres, which does best on Saturdays. However, that was mostly out of the question with the mixed to negative reception the film has received. It did well to get some growth even as there was a possibility of it staying flat or maybe even dropping. The Sunday growth is going to be minimal as the night shows will be taking a hit in the bigger centres, and as it happens, those are the best-performing shows in the first two days for the film.
Alpha faced an uphill battle right from the outset. Historically, female-led action films have struggled to attract audiences at the Indian box office, making this a risky proposition to begin with. The challenge was further compounded by the YRF Spy Universe being at a low ebb following the underperformance of Tiger 3 and, more significantly, War 2. The fact that this film, with all going against it, has managed to take a start is a positive to go with.
The production also needs to be commended for not indulging in the feeding and other nonsense that goes around these days. It was the same during War 2 as well, and that film had a lot riding on it. Yash Raj Films, the premier production house of the Hindi film industry, continues to lead by example in these dark days, refusing to indulge in such malpractices regardless of the outcome and accepting success or failure with equal grace.
