Anurag Kashyap's Bandar, starring Bobby Deol in the lead role, exhausted its entire run at just Rs. 3.50 crore nett at the Indian box office. That said, the movie turned out to be a flop despite receiving a positive reception from the audience and critics.

Bandar had an opening of Rs. 50 lakh, and it went on to collect over Rs. 2 crore in its first weekend itself. However, the movie showed no growth afterwards. In fact, it witnessed severe drops, which eventually ended its box office run sooner than expected.

Co-starring Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Jitendra Joshi, Raj B Shetty, and others, Bandar was released on limited screens. It further faced significant competition from the rival releases. One of the major reasons behind its failure at the box office could be a lack of awareness around the release. The movie was released with very little promotion, that too in a clash with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Peddi.

Given the kind of word-of-mouth Bandar had, it should have grown over the long run much like Main Vaapas Aaunga; however, it seems audiences are now patient enough to wait for their OTT releases. That said, small- to mid-sized movies with no anticipation continue to struggle to find an audience in cinemas, even after securing positive WOM.

About Bandar

Bandar follows Sameer Mehra’s character, essayed by Bobby Deol, a fading star who is desperately clinging to his past glory. Just as he attempts to rebuild his life and finds solace in a new relationship, his world comes crashing down. A former girlfriend files a heinous allegation against him, dragging him into a vicious, high-profile legal battle. Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the film moves away from standard Bollywood courtroom setups. Instead, it dives straight into the murky waters of social media trials, public perception, and a sluggish judicial system where the truth gets buried under layers of gray.
