Box Office: Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji makes history, becomes 1st Marathi film to score Rs 100 crore in India
Raja Shivaji smashed the Rs. 100 crore mark at the Indian box office, the first for the Marathi film Industry. The Riteish Deshmukh starrer turned out to be a banger Hit at the box office.
Raja Shivaji scripted history on its third Tuesday, entering the Rs. 100 crore club at the Indian box office. This is the first century for a Marathi film in domestic markets. Earlier, Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva came so close to this huge milestone but ended their full theatrical run slightly behind.
The Riteish Deshmukh starrer added Rs. 1.50 crore to the tally on its third Tuesday, taking the running cume to Rs. 100.85 crore gross in India. It is still performing well at the box office, which means the movie has enough fuel to sail through a couple of more weeks. If the historical epic saga continues to hold well in the coming weeks too, it will end its lifetime run somewhere around Rs. 110-115 crore mark.
Having said that, both Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva earned their monies almost entirely from Maharashtra state, whereas Raja Shivaji has a significant amount coming from outside Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, Raja Shivaji will likely stay below the two, and that’s what the core market really is, and that’s where it should have done record numbers as well. Of course, the expectations were for even higher as films like Tanhaji and Chhaava did extraordinary numbers in the state, the former adjusting to Rs. 250 crore today while the latter crossed Rs. 300 crore. Raja Shivaji won’t even reach Rs. 100 crore in the state.
Nevertheless, the movie turned out to be a big HIT and the highest-grossing Marathi film at the Indian box office. With this sort of impressive performance, Riteish Deshmukh proved his crowd-pull in the Marathi markets yet again, giving back-to-back Clean Hits.
The Box Office Collections for Raja Shivaji in India are as follows:
