Dhamaal 4 Box Office Collections: Ajay Devgn starrer does well on first day netting Rs. 14 Cr in India

Dhamaal 4 did decently well on its first day at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 13.75-14 crore nett approx. The first day of business is similar to the opening Friday haul of Welcome to the Jungle, which collected Rs. 15.25 crore nett two weeks back. While Welcome had some holiday boost, it also had previews taking away some business, so that evens out. The opening is short of its predecessor, Total Dhamaal, which opened to Rs. 16 crore nett in 2019, which adjusts to Rs. 25 crore nett today.

Comparing with Welcome to the Jungle circuit-wise, the two films were about the same in Mumbai, Dhamaal 4 being slightly ahead. The shortfall from Welcome to the Jungle mainly came from the Hindi belt circuits, within that, Delhi-UP was around Rs. 50 lakh nett less. Most other places were 10-20 per cent short of Welcome.

Had this opening come after Bhooth Bangla, there would be more confidence, as that film legged from Rs. 15.50 crore nett on the opening day to Rs. 170 crore nett final. However, after Welcome to the Jungle, which opened to Rs. 19 crore nett and is going to close around Rs. 135 crore nett. In fact, Welcome seemed poised to be a HIT after the first five days, but it slipped on Wednesday and then never recovered. Dhamaal 4 would need to avoid that for starters.

What works in Dhamaal 4's favour is the significantly less competitive release window. Welcome to the Jungle ran into two major Hindi releases in successive weeks, whereas Dhamaal faces competition primarily from Hollywood titles. Spider-Man could pose a challenge in the fourth week, but The Odyssey caters to a different audience (and screens), so it's pretty much an open run for three weeks. As a result, the film could end up with a higher lifetime than Welcome to the Jungle even if its first-week business finishes slightly lower.
