Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Day 2 Box Office: Varun Dhawan starrer remains flat on Saturday, nets Rs 15 crore in 2 days
Varun Dhawan's Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona couldn't show any significant jump on its Day 2. The movie is looking to wind up its opening weekend under the Rs. 25 crore mark.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai added another Rs. 7.50 crore to the tally on its Day 2. The Varun Dhawan starrer remained flat on Saturday, with Friday not good at all. The opening was not a total disaster, thanks in part to the offer. What it needed was to grow on that, but the film has failed to do so.
Directed by David Dhawan, the two-day theatrical cume of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai reached Rs. 15 crore nett at the box office. Based on current trends, the movie is looking to close its first weekend around Rs. 23 crore to Rs. 25 crore. That said, the movie is performing on similar lines to Varun's previous film, Sunny SanskariKi Tulsi Kumari. It had ended its full run around the Rs. 60 crore mark. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai should aim to overtake it or end up on similar notes.
The rom-com genre and mid-scale films are struggling in the post-pandemic times in general. One of the prime reasons is the erosion of the theatrical base by digital platforms. The current 8-week OTT window is directly undermining the theatrical business, conditioning audiences to simply wait for the streaming release. The makers need time to elongate the window to somewhere around 6 months and make the wait inconvenient for the audience. Otherwise, the genre is already suffering.
