Haunted 3D Echoes Of The Past Final Box Office: Vikram Bhatt's horror drama closes theatrical run at Rs 15 crore in India
Vikram Bhatt's horror flick, Haunted 3D Echoes Of The Past, ended its entire box office run at just Rs 15 crore. Had the film held well in second week, it might have emerged as a success.
Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past, directed by Vikram Bhatt, wrapped its entire box office run slightly over the Rs. 15 crore nett mark in India. The film surprisingly took off despite having B-movie-level production values. Ultimately, the quality caught up and the film couldn’t sustain that start, with the collection falling on weekdays & then basically out of cinemas after the 2nd week.
It had an opening of Rs. 2.35 crore and went on to collect over Rs. 13.50 crore nett in its first week, leaving trade in surprise. Interestingly, it had recorded a better first week than its rival releases: Main Vaapas Aaunga, Governor, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, and others. But the movie fell flat in the second week, when it witnessed a sharp drop of 90 per cent, collecting just Rs. 1.40 crore while facing Cocktail 2. From there, the movie could only add around Rs. 25 lakh more.
The original Haunted 3D, released in 2011, was a HIT at the box office. The director has also delivered several successful low-budget horror films, most notably the Raaz films. However, this brand of horror seemed to have lost its appeal as many of these tanked in the last fifteen years, making one believe that the time had passed over them.
The box office numbers of Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past suggest that might not be the case. Though the film is still a flop, it proved one thing: the Indian audience is craving horror films. Had the film been made with decent production values, it may well have recorded a successful run.
