Karuppu collected Rs. 14.75 crore approx on its 2nd Saturday. This marks a 60 per cent growth over the 2nd Friday and a 45 per cent drop from Saturday last week. Both of these are good trends. The total box office collections for the Suriya starrer in India have reached Rs. 153.75 crore approx. The second weekend is headed for Rs. 41 crore approx, which will be a sub-50 per cent drop from an impressive first weekend.

Karuppu has ended the drought for Suriya, and the timing could not be better for the Tamil film industry. Vijay has stepped away from cinema to pursue politics. Rajinikanth is old, and Ajith isn’t too prolific either, with interest in a racing career. In such times, the rebound of Suriya is a godsend as the Tamil film industry is in dire need of stars to headline bigger films.
