Karuppu Box Office Collections: Suriya starrer has an oustanding Monday hold in India, Rises to Rs. 94 Cr in four days
Karuppu stands just Rs. 2 crore short of becoming the highest-grossing Suriya film in India & Rs. 6 crore short of his maiden Rs. 100 crore grosser. It will be hitting both of these milestones today.
Karuppu had an outstanding Monday at the Indian box office, with the film collecting Rs. 16.25 crore approx. That marks a drop of just 15 per cent from its opening day, which is a stellar hold. The hold was even better in Tamil Nadu, where it collected Rs. 11 crore approx, down just 8 per cent from its opening day. The four-day running total at the Indian box office stands at Rs. 94 crore approx, of which Rs. 58 crore approx is from Tamil Nadu.
The film stands just Rs. 2 crore short of becoming the highest-grossing Suriya film in India and Rs. 6 crore short of his maiden Rs. 100 crore grosser. It will be hitting both of these milestones today.
Monday numbers in Tamil Nadu are the eleventh highest of all time, but most of these were supported by a holiday. For non-holiday, it is the third highest of all time, trailing just behind The Greatest of All Time and Vikram. The former went on to collect over Rs. 200 crore, while the latter was close, at over Rs. 180 crore. This presages a big final figure for the film, likely over Rs. 150 crore in the state, potentially more, subject to how it holds in the coming days. That places the film firmly as a BLOCKBUSTER.
The film is also collecting well outside Tamil Nadu. The Telugu version is also holding well, despite the initial audience reception being said to be mixed. Karnataka and Kerala also brought in over a crore on Monday.
The Territorial Breakdown for Karuppu in India is as follows:
| Area | Gross |
|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu | Rs. 58.00 cr. |
| APTS | Rs. 15.00 cr. |
| Karnataka | Rs. 11.25 cr. |
| Kerala | Rs. 8.25 cr. |
| Rest of India | Rs. 1.50 cr. |
| INDIA | Rs. 94.00 cr. |
Karuppu is not just a BLOCKBUSTER but also the first HIT film for Suriya since Singam II in 2013. The superstar was at the peak of his career during the early 2010s, delivering several major grossers on the go. However, the years that followed saw him endure a prolonged rough patch at the box office. Some of his films opened promisingly but failed to sustain due to poor reception, while others that found audience appreciation could not generate a strong initial start. Unfortunately, two of his best-received films didn’t get a theatrical release and were released digitally during COVID. For the first time in a long while, things have fallen into place together, and it's finally the long-awaited hit that had eluded the superstar for years.
