Karuppu Box Office Collections: Suriya starrer takes career best opening with Rs. 77 Cr weekend in India
Suriya's latest outing, Karuppu, collected Rs. 31.75 crore approx on Sunday. That's another single day record for the actor.
Karuppu had a fantastic Sunday at the Indian box office, with the film crossing the Rs. 30 crore mark in a single day. The film collected Rs. 31.75 crore approx on Sunday, registering a superb 17 per cent jump over Saturday. This is the biggest single day ever for a Suriya film, of any of his opening days as well. The first weekend came in at Rs. 77.75 crore approx, another record for Suriya. In fact, the weekend alone is higher than the lifetime collections of every Suriya film released since Singam 3 in 2017.
The film had a low start in the morning on Friday, but it picked up strongly over the day, and by the end of it, it was quite evident that this film is going to travel. That was confirmed with the growth on Saturday, and on Sunday, the film further consolidated that. The film performed well across the board. In Tamil Nadu, it collected Rs. 19 crore approx on Sunday, putting its weekend total at Rs. 47 crore approx. The Telugu dubbed version of the film also did well at around Rs. 12 crore approx. Karnataka and Kerala also supported ably.
Karuppu is a SUPER HIT film; it can go on to become a BLOCKBUSTER, which will depend on how well it holds through weekdays and the coming weeks. It is the first HIT film for Suriya since Singam II in 2013. The superstar was at the peak of his career during the early 2010s, delivering several major grossers on the go. However, the years that followed saw him endure a prolonged rough patch at the box office. Some of his films opened promisingly but failed to sustain due to poor reception, while others that found audience appreciation could not generate a strong initial start. Unfortunately, two of his best-received films didn’t get a theatrical release and were released digitally during COVID. For the first time in a long while, things have fallen into place together, and it's finally the long-awaited hit that had eluded the superstar for years.
