Karuppu Worldwide Box Office Collections: Career biggest opening weekend for Suriya, Rs. 122 Cr in 3 days
The final worldwide figure shall be comfortably over Rs. 200 crore. The film is going to set new records for Suriya, quite possibly double the previous ones.
Tamil film Karuppu had a very good opening overseas as well, with the Suriya starrer collecting USD 4.575 million (Rs. 44 crore) approx in its first weekend. Combined with Rs. 77.75 crore approx from India, the worldwide opening weekend amounted to Rs. 121.75 crore approx.
The overseas grosses are the highest ever for Suriya in Rupees, although the dollar figure is slightly short of 24 and Singam 2, and it should be taking over that as well by Tuesday. Worldwide, it almost became the top grosser for Suriya, just Rs. 2 crore short of Singam 2, and that will be done today. The final worldwide figure shall be comfortably over Rs. 200 crore. Karuppu is going to set new records for Suriya, quite possibly double the previous ones.
The trend over the weekend was impressive, with the film opening to USD 1.28 million on Friday. Normally, from there, one would expect a weekend of USD 3.50 million or so for a Tamil film, but the film showcased strong growth on Saturday and held strongly on Sunday, clearing not just USD 3.50 million but a million more. The film did well across all Tamil markets. Malaysia was the top market with USD 1.30 million approx, followed by the Middle East, which brought up another million dollars.
