Malayalam film Kattalan has finally hit the big screens this weekend. The gory action drama, starring Antony Varghese in the lead role, began its box office run on a promising note. The movie smashed a solid Rs. 3.50 crore gross on its Day 1 at the Kerala box office, becoming the actor's biggest opener of all time.
Kattalan released on Thursday, coinciding with the Eid al-Adha holiday, which also boosted its collections. Now, it needs to show an upward trajectory over the weekend. The movie garnered mixed to average word-of-mouth among the audience, which is concerning for its business ahead. Still, there is some hope that it might sail through a successful theatrical run.
For the unversed, Kattalan is facing Drishyam 3 in cinemas. The Mohanlal starrer is going riot even in its second weekend and is expected to dominate the Mollywood box office for the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see whether Kattalan can hold well against Drishyam 3 or not.

The film revolves around an ivory cartel clash, following a man who finds himself caught between relentless greed and the untamed wilderness. The film is co-written and directed by Paul George, with music and background score composed by Ravi Basrur and B. Ajaneesh Loknath.
Apart from Antony Varghese, the film also stars Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Kill fame Parth Tiwari, Jagadish, Dushara Vijayan, Siddique, Raj Tirandasu, Shon Joy, Anson Paul, and several others in key roles.
