The photorealistic remake of Disney's 1994 film The Lion King hit the big screen 2 weeks ago. Fans, who had been waiting eagerly to watch the film, rushed to theatres to catch the computer-animated musical. The film follows the life of Simba, a young lion who idolizes his father, Mufasa, the king of the jungle. When Simba is born, the entire kingdom celebrates the occasion except his evil uncle Scar, Mufasa’s brother and the former heir to the throne.

The Lion King stars the voices of Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones as Mufasa, whereas the Hindi version of the film stars Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan as Mufasa and his son Aryan Khan as Simba. Directed and produced by Jon Favreau and written by Jeff Nathanson, The Lion King has been applauded for its wonderful visual effects and musical score, however it faced criticism for lack of originality. Nevertheless, the film has managed to keep a steady hold at ticket windows.

According to a report in Box Office India: “The Lion King collected a good 1.75 crore nett on its third Friday but it is a bigger drop compared to last Friday. There was a big Hollywood release this week with Fast & Furious which is why the Lion King has taken a bigger hit this week. the film should be strong again on Saturday and Sunday but it does not look like going much higher than 150 crore nett now.”
