Not many times do we see a miraculous turnaround of movies at the box office through positive word-of-mouth. Recently, Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga is witnessing the same where the audience WOM saved the film from an almost deadlock. Previously, it happened with 12th Fail. Like 12th Fail, Main Vaapas Aaunga also started on a similar note, and it is now on the track to emerge as a successful venture.

Main Vaapas Aaunga had a stronger trend than 12th Fail in the first three weeks. However, it was the run after the third week for 12th Fail, which was something utterly incredible and took the film to where it reached. If Main Vaapas Aaunga manages to replicate that, it will emerge as a HIT film, but it won’t be easy doing that.

Looking at the 12th Fail run, the late legs were superb. It even managed to make a resurgence after the OTT release in the ninth week, which was unprecedented then and hasn't happened since. The film managed to add nearly Rs. 5 crore nett after digital release, which is an impossible ask for Main Vaapas Aaunga.

Having said that, Main Vaapas Aaunga may not need that if it holds well for the next two weeks against competition, particularly next week against Dhamaal 4. For the record, 12th Fail closed its entire run around Rs. 57.80 crore nett, emerging as a Clean Hit venture. The Imtiaz Ali film netted over Rs. 49.20 crore in three weeks, and is expected to close its entire run around Rs. 65-70 crore nett at the Indian box office. One must note that the production budget of Main Vaapas Aaunga is almost three times that of 12th Fail.
